What is PCIM?
The Republic Act 11904, known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA), marks a legislative milestone, setting the stage for the Philippines to further nurture and elevate its creative sectors. This Act promotes and supports the development of Philippine creative industries by protecting and strengthening the rights and capacities of the creative industries
Aligned with the aspirations of PCIDA, the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) aims to promote and celebrate the role of creative industries in nation-building and socioeconomic advancement.
It serves as a strategic platform to showcase the richness and diversity of the Filipino creative sectors, highlighting their substantial contributions to the identity and vitality of the nation. This annual celebration is pivotal in realizing the Philippines' vision of becoming Asia’s premier creative hub by 2030. It positions the nation as a leading center of creativity in Asia.
The relevance of this vision is underscored by recent economic data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showing that the Creative Economy accounts for 7.1% of the GDP.
DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual noted that the first PCIM organized by DTI in September 2023 has markedly boosted such growth which highlights the vast economic potential within the creative industries. Further, it is a clear indication of their capability to deliver substantial economic value, outstripping several other key industries, and is a crucial step towards the Philippines achieving its goal of becoming Asia’s top creative hub.
The PCIM is, therefore, a strategic and forward-looking initiative, reflecting our commitment to nurturing and promoting the creative sectors. It is a move towards solidifying the Philippines' position as a leader in the global creative economy, in line with its vision for 2030.
Anchored on the ambitious vision of further increasing the country’s global footprint in the creative scene, a strategic framework was established in the PCID plan composed of Five (5) Pillars that serve as fundamental building blocks upon which the entire strategy is constructed:
Every pillar is essential, interconnected, and indispensable to the overall architecture of the framework. Aligned with the aspirations of PCIDA, the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM) aims to promote and celebrate the role of creative industries in nation-building and socioeconomic advancement. It serves as a strategic platform to showcase the diversity of the Filipino creative sectors, highlighting their substantial contributions to the identity and vitality of the nation.
